Bulgaria launches the second phase of a large-scale state program «Electing Bulgaria» (Component 2), financed by European funds. The initiative's main goal is to combat labor shortages in the regions and de-urbanization. The state is prepared to generously sponsor those who decide to trade the hustle and bustle of large cities for a quiet life in small towns and villages.

The total budget for the second stage is 15 million euros, and at least 1,050 participants and their families will be able to receive payments.

Who can become a participant in the program?

To qualify for government subsidies, applicants must meet two basic criteria:

1. Age and status: Be a citizen of working age and legally reside in Bulgaria.

2. Moving route: At the time of application, you must reside in a major city with a population of more than 50,000 people. It is necessary to move to any populated area (small town or village) where the less than 50,000 inhabitants.

Important: Relocating doesn't necessarily have to be to a remote village. Dozens of comfortable and cozy Bulgarian towns by the sea and in the mountains fit the "up to 50,000 people" criteria.

Financial incentives: how much does the government pay?

The program isn't limited to a single payment. Financial assistance is broken down into several blocks to support families throughout all stages of relocation:

• Help with the move itself: One-time compensation for the transportation of furniture and belongings in the amount of up to 480 euros (paid upon presentation of receipts and confirmation of employment).

• Money for rent and utilities: If you don’t have your own home in the new city, the state will pay 207.58 euros per month throughout the year. These funds can be used to pay rent, electricity, water, and internet.

• Transportation costs: If your new job is in a neighboring town, you may be eligible for a transport allowance - 4.09 euros for each day worked (paid for up to 12 months).

The icing on the cake is a one-time payment equal to six national average salaries.

How to get this amount: You must find a job in a new location on your own (or with the help of the Employment Agency) and work for a total of at least 8 months within one year. Once this length of service is confirmed, the bonus is credited to your account.

Note: The payment is not available to those who have found employment under other subsidized employment programs.

Family allowances

If you have minor children (under 18 years of age), the basic amount of the main payment increases significantly:

• 1 child: +10% to the sum (coefficient 1.1).

• 2 children: +20% to the sum (coefficient 1.2).

• 3 or more children: +30% to the sum (coefficient 1.3).

How and when to apply?

The start of accepting applications is scheduled for autumn 2026. The procedure will be as transparent and convenient as possible—no paper queues.
